Is Being A Perfectionist Helping Or Hurting Your Business?

I hear a lot from my clients that the reason that they haven’t launched their product or program is because they are a perfectionist.

Sometimes that can be a good thing in regards to achieving high quality and paying attention to detail but how does this impact your business? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

I believe that being a perfectionist is not a good thing when it comes to “putting yourself out there” with your online business.

Perfectionism rears its ugly head in the form of a fear of making mistakes (ie you want to have everything perfect before you launch).

When you do that, 2 things happen:

Number one: You fail to launch. You fail to take action because you have to have everything “just so.” But guess what? Nothing is ever going to be “just so!” It isn’t going to be perfect. So, you end up sitting on the sidelines. And it’s really hard to make an impact on the world when you’re sitting on the sidelines. It’s really hard to make money in your business when you’re sitting on the sidelines.

Number two: The second thing that happens is really devastating to your business. Once you’ve spent a ton of time making sure that everything is perfectly perfect and you “put it out there,” you may be less receptive to important feedback! Let’s say you take a year to create your product or program, you finally launch it and the results are not that great. You may be inclined–because you spent so long on that program–to not change anything but be willing to accept less than desirable results because you spent all that time making it perfect. You’re unwilling to make changes that will help you get better.

If you are a perfectionist and have fears of making mistakes, I highly recommend that you reign that in.

Listen to some mindset training.

Talk to a coach.

Work through those underlying reasons why you have those perfectionist tendencies because those tendencies negatively impact your business.

Let’s face it. You’ve got a lot of people that you don’t even know yet that are depending on you to succeed. You want to make sure that you are putting yourself out there in a big way and it doesn’t have to be perfect!
