Are the people you hang out with ruining your business?

This past weekend, I was in Seattle and I got to have a very unusual experience.

I got to spend time with one person who was super positive, had lots of ideas and had a completely uplifting outlook on life.

Then, I also spent time with someone who was super negative, always asking questions like, “Why is this happening to me?” and saying things like, “This isn’t going right” and focusing on all the problems in their life.

It was really interesting to have the opportunity to be around both of those types of people in one weekend.

When I was with the positive person, my ideas were flowing and we were masterminding well. My energy levels were high, I was super hopeful and in a great mood.

When I hung out with the person that was super negative, I started feeling really tired. I felt like all of the energy was being sucked out of my body. I found myself being negative and talking about negative things as well.

That is why my husband Rich and I have made an effort to select very carefully who we spend our time with.

This last weekend reinforced the importance of that decision.

If you are around people that are negative, you need to realize how that can be impacting your business in a big way.

This is especially difficult if it is your spouse or a family member that you are very close with. In this circumstance, you need to find a support system where you can have positive energy around you.

If the negative people in your life are your friends, you may want to consider limiting your time with them because their influence can have a tremendous negative effect on your business, your creativity and your overall well-being.

Pick who you hang out with very carefully and don’t be afraid if you are surrounded by negative people to limit those interactions so that you can keep moving in a positive and uplifting way.
